African Center of Excellence for Statistical Training

Scientific Advisory Board

The Scientific Council’s mission is to provide a long-term vision to help the Steering Committee set the scientific direction of the Center of Excellence, and to assess the scientific value of the training and research activities carried out at the Center. The Scientific Advisory Board will oversee the pedagogical engineering, training of trainers and research activities carried out (selection of doctoral students, research partnerships, awarding of grants, validation of teaching programs). The Scientific Advisory Board will be consulted by the Steering Committee on the scientific orientations of the Center, and may make any proposals to the Steering Committee.The choice of members of the Scientific Advisory Board (see Table 5) was dictated by the personality and dimension of their scientific work, as well as their proximity to the CEA’s themes, a desire to guarantee a broad geographical and disciplinary spread, a good balance between academics and industrialists, the gender aspect, and the presence of English-speakers.Thus it is:

  • Three researchers from North America;
  • Three researchers from Europe;
  • Five African researchers, including 4 from Côte d’Ivoire;
  • Two representatives of African institutions employing statisticians (BCEAO, AFRISTAT)
  • Two representatives of Ivorian institutions employing statisticians (INS, CGECI)
  • An expert statistician working in the private sector in Canada. The Scientific Advisory Board will meet twice (2) a year, once in conjunction with the end-of-year symposium.

Working groups may be set up within the Scientific Advisory Board to facilitate the monitoring of research activities. The first meetings of the Scientific Advisory Board and the Steering Committee will be held in Abidjan, to enable members to experience the realities of the field.
